There is no denying that a growing world of technology brings a lot of changes to our lives, from the convenience of shopping — online, getting reviews of everything — online, to meeting your Friday night date — online. With the advancement of the internet, the unfortunate side can be the security issues that come with it. Some genius-like people created this digital world for all of us, while others live and operate in the dark side of technology beyond the firewall of our individual computers.

Out of growing concern for the safety of all, particularly children and youth, Safer Internet Day was born on the second day of the second week of the second month each year. This year, it falls on February 8th, 2022, where we all can come together to raise awareness.

A Little Bit Of History On Safer Internet Day

As an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004, Insafe and INHOPE Network launched Safer Internet Day with the support of the European Commission to promote a safe and positive digital experience. With even the tightest IT security, people (especially youth) are unfortunately still exposed to the (unsafe) risks of the internet.

Celebrated in 200 countries, many IT consultants work with national centres to help bring the need for a safer digital space to the forefront by providing helplines, and educational materials, while working closely with youth around the world.

The Difference We Can All Make

Join this year's campaign, "Together for a better internet," by sharing information on why we need a safer digital space within our computer networks. The campaign aims to empower everyone to practice responsibly, respectfully, critically, and creatively when using the internet.

To support this cause, share your concerns with key influencers in our youth's lives, such as teachers, parents, social workers, and work to bring change through our politicians.

Data security companies like Muskwa are here to support these global initiatives where we can all show the internet's potential to bring people together safely and comfortably. Muskwa Computer Sciences Corporation proudly operates out of Kelowna, BC, and stands by its values of Integrity, Connection, and Quality.
